Here is our journal outlining significant events in the lead-up to and during our Ride Against Cancer.
24.06.2007 : Completion Dinner
Luncheon held at the end of a successful trip . The photograph shows the group holding a replica of the cheque donated to the Cancer Council . The figure was $16800 !!! an excellent effort
It was also good to view the DVD put together by Graeme / Baboosi and to reminisce over many good times had on the planning, the eight days ride and then the continuing friendships
05.05.2007 : Day 8 - Queenscliff to Melbourne
Last day of the Ride Against Cancer, the finish was within our grasp ....at last. Down to the ferry wharf at 7am and after boarding we enjoyed a 40min trip across Port Phillip Bay. We disembarked at Sorrento about 8:45am and we hit the road to Melbourne. The weather forecast had us worried as the predicted 15-20 knot Nth Westerly winds would have been in our faces for the majority of the 100km journey. Luckily the winds were not so bad and we made great progress. We enjoyed a great coffee at Frankston at Great Flavours Cafe and the proprietor made a generous donation at the same time.
As we left Frankston the rain started and accompanied us for about 30 mins. However as we got closer to Melbourne the weather improved and as we reached St Kilda the sun appeared at last.
We finally reached the finish at the old Melbourne GPO at about 3:30pm where we were welcomed by our support team and other supporters.
All arrived safely and on time. The whole team did a sensational job.
04.05.2007 : Day 7 - Apollo bay to Queenscliff
Our trip today along the most picturesque stretch of Australia's coastline was enjoyed by all. The weather looked after us once again with lots of direct sunlight providing welcome warmth to all.We started out from Apollo Bay at 7:30am with 145kms ahead of us. Our plan was to stop at Lorne for a coffee, Torquay for lunch and power on to Queenscliff to end the day's ride.
However we had a couple of mechanical hitches which cost us some time that we had to make up. Luckily a very strong Nth Westerly came up in the afternoon and blew us at incredible speeds down to Queenscliff. Some of the guys hit 65kms per hour on a flat stretch of road with the wind at their back. Wow !!
